BARBARA BICHELMEYER - Consulting Academic Authority

Barbara A. Bichelmeyer, Ph.D. is Professor of Instructional Systems Technology and Associate Vice President for Academic Planning at Indiana University. She is internationally known for her expertise in the areas of adult learning, instructional design, training & program evaluation, and the integration of instructional technologies in face-to-face, online and blended classrooms.

Barbara has more than 25 years of experience working in various settings including corporate, non-profit, government, military, higher education and P-16 environments to design, develop and evaluate training and educational programs.

Prior to joining the faculty at Indiana University, Barbara worked for several years as Educational Consultant for Total Quality Management at Sprint Telecommunications. As a consultant, Barbara’s client list includes Cisco, Procter & Gamble, Eli Lilly, Microsoft, Sprint, Fidelity Investments, the United States Coast Guard, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services STEPS to a Healthier US program, and the Centers for Disease Control Office on Smoking and Health, among others.

Barbara’s goal is to help individuals develop their skills as self-directed learners so they can evaluate their own performance in order to achieve their professional and personal goals.

Educational Background
Barbara has earned multiple degrees from the University of Kansas. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism (1982), a Bachelor of Arts in English (1986), a Master of Science in Educational Policy and Administration (1988) and a PhD in Educational Communications and Technology (1991).

Additionally, Barbara is certified in Accomplishment-Based Curriculum Development, and she has participated in numerous professional training programs and workshops, including:

Barbara brings a wealth of experience to MBL related to the analysis, design, development and evaluation of training. Her training solutions frequently address the topics of management and leadership skills, teamwork, effective meeting management, and the skills of instructional design and evaluation. Her training solutions are built on a strong theoretical foundation developed through extensive original research and intense familiarity with the literature bases of learning theory, instructional design, technology integration, human performance technology and organization development. Her academic vita lists more than $5 million in grant-funded research, more than 25 referred articles in research journals, over 75 publications and more than 100 conference presentations.

As a speaker
Barbara has made keynote presentations to groups including the 2005 Organization of Regulatory Administrators for Continuing Legal Education, the 2004 Conference of HRD Professionals in Sonora, Mexico, and the 2005 Visiting Lecture Series at Middle Eastern Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. A respected speaker, Barbara is known for her ability to inform and inspire by blending practical experience with research findings from a wide variety of organizations in corporate, non-profit, government and military settings.
